Mental Health is important to our sense of well-being, and to our physical health. Our dealing with the World, and all of our daily experiences, depends upon our Mental Health and its impact on the emotional appraisal of ourselves and our external world. When we are not Mentally healthy, we may be limited by our anxiety, and our depression. We lack confidence in ourselves, and we even appraise others in a more negative way. An unhealthy mind grows negative thoughts, and consequently negative, or even paranoid beliefs. Our very foundation is compromised by a lack of Mental Wellness.

Optimal Living Psychotherapy Services aims to treat the effects of Mental Illness, and other effects of a lack of emotional wellness. Ultimately, we believe that all human beings are capable of surpassing a mere alleviation of symptoms. Rather, we see attainment of Optimal Living as being within our human grasp. Optimal Living is exemplified by the experience of the balanced, open, healthy, flexible, socially-connected, and happy human being.
Pain and health issues, chronic or terminal, can ravage a person's sense of well-being, confidence, and emotional wellness. We explore the meaning of pain and health limitations, and seek to unravel the negative impact these have. Life can be meaningful and happy, even in the place of health tragedies and limitations. We work with CBT, hypnosis, EMDR, and Mindfulness practice.
Loss, and the resulting grief, is a part and parcel of our lives. We all lose meaningful others. We all experience loss, in its multiple forms. Grief is a part of the journey in the face of loss. Psychotherapy can assist with processing your loss, and making some peace with it. Don't be alone with it. Let psychotherapy help you be with your loss and grief. Find a new sense of meaning, direction, and focus, as you work with your loss. Multiple tools.
Happiness is accessible to everyone. Happiness is not about having everything you want, being with a desirable partner, or being wealthy. Happiness is a state of mind, that allows you to see your life and the world realistically. Happiness is about seeing the world clearly, not having expectations or demands or sense of entitlement about the world, and accepting your responsibility for your life. We utilize a number of tools & therapies, including CBT, Mindfulness, and Clinical Hypnosis. Let us help you on your life journey!
A more serious form of anxiety is found with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the result of serious, often life-threatening, events. Life stressors, like assault, kidnapping, rape, serious accidents, seeing a loved one murdered, torture, and combat exposure, can all lead to the development of an enduring array of PTSD symptoms. PTSD is treatable with CBT, Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).
Relationships are difficult. Join me for assistance navigating the "rough waters". I use a combination of Interpersonal Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Assertiveness Training, and "common sense" skills improving your listening skills, communicating more effectively, being more empathetic, and forging a strong alliance as a couple.

Anxiety and depression rob our lives of energy, a sense of engagement, meaning & purpose, and fun. Yet, both of these are treatable. Some degree of success is very attainable with psychotherapy, and in some instances, medications, may also become a viable part of the treatment plan. Psychotherapies including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and well-planned self-care can be highly effective and positively life-changing.
